Issue

The following error appears while backing up your device in iMazing:

Could not save backup files

This error message appears because iMazing cannot save files to your computer's hard drive or external hard drive.

Solution

This can happen for one of the following reasons:

Disconnected or unstable drive

Make sure the destination drive stays connected throughout the backup. Check the cable and try a different USB port. For network drives, verify the connection is stable.

Unsupported drive format

Windows requires NTFS. macOS requires Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or APFS.

Change the backup location

If neither of the above resolves the issue, change the backup location in iMazing to a different drive. See our guide on Back Up iPhone or iPad to an External Drive or Another Location.
