Music: tracks are greyed out in iMazing

Updated on Apr 22, 2026

Reading time ~1 minute

Some tracks may appear greyed out in iMazing's Music section, or in the Import from iTunes track selection window. These tracks cannot be transferred.

Why tracks appear greyed out

When browsing your device's music library, there are two reasons why a track may be greyed out:

  • iCloud Music tracks that are not downloaded cannot be copied, because they are not physically on your device. This includes iTunes Purchases, iCloud Music Library tracks, and iTunes Match tracks. To transfer them, download them first to your device from the Music app.
  • Apple Music tracks are DRM-protected and cannot be copied to a computer or to another device.

When importing from iTunes, tracks appear greyed out if they are already on the device or if they are stored in the cloud and not available locally.

The Only Show Transferable Media filter

If you check Only Show Transferable Media, above the toolbar, iMazing only shows files it can copy. Uncheck this option to reveal all tracks, including those that cannot be transferred.

What is DRM?

DRM (Digital Rights Management) is a form of copy protection applied by content providers. Apple Music tracks use Apple's FairPlay DRM, which ties playback to an active Apple Music subscription and prevents the files from being exported or copied outside of Apple's ecosystem.
